Honours

Several places and honours were named after him, including:
  • The Mokhtar Dahari Community Square or Dataran Komuniti Mokhtar Dahari, a community hall located at Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur was named after him where Mokhtar used to stay, occasionally playing football there.
  • There is a futsal court, Gelanggang Mokhtar Dahari (Moktar Dahari Futsal Court) located at Putrajaya Futsal Complex in Putrajaya.

  • There is a national football academy was named after him, Akademi Bola Sepak Negara Mokhtar Dahari(Mokhtar Dahari National Football Academy) located at Gambang, Pahang was established on 10 April 2014.

  • The Shah Alam-Batu Arang Highway which connecting Shah Alam and Puncak Alam was renamed Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari in 2014.

  • In 2014, Google celebrates his 61st birthday.
  • There is a theater showcase his legendary football career in Istana Budaya called Super Mokh portrayed by Malaysian actor named Awie.

Supermokh the musical



THE tale of Malaysia’s most celebrated footballer, Mokhtar Dahari, is back on stage as Supermokh The Musical is on its second run at Istana Budaya due to popular demand.

Produced by Tall Order Productions Sdn Bhd, Supermokh The Musical had its first run in November last year.
Starring Awie as Mokhtar Dahari and Maya Karin as his wife Tengku Zarina, the story portrays some of Mokhtar’s best moments in his sporting career, his relationship with his wife Tengku Zarina and his relationship with fellow footballers such as Santokh Singh and Soh Chin Aun.
Viewers will also get to see how Mokhtar sacrificed much of his time with his loved ones to play for the love and glory of football.
As a result, he took the Selangor state to victory many times in the Malaysia Cup, played against football greats such as Diego Maradona and scored 320 goals in his career.

14 facts about Mokhtar Dahari

There are some interesting facts about Supermokh, Malaysia true legends.

1. It is said that three fingers of late R Arumungam, former national goalkeeper was broken while trying to saves a strong kick by Supermokh during a session of training.

2. At the age of 23 years, Mokhtar Dahari has been recognized by the World Star Soccer Magazine as the best striker in Asia and in the mean time, he was named as national sportsman in 1976.

3. After the expiry of the Sijil Rendah Pelajaran (now we call as PMR) in 1968, Mokhtar Dahari gifted a pair of football boots cost only RM15 by his father and he really appreciate the gift and said "boots given by my father might cost only RM15, but it meant in my football carrier. "

4. His first match was when representing Selangor in Burnley Cup 1971 (now Razak Cup) against Kedah and scored his first goal in the match.

5. First time been selected to represent the national team when Jakartaraya Cup 1972.

6. Had the highest scoring (5 goals) in a 1974 international match against the Philippines at the Asian Games 1974 in Tehran.

7. Mokhtar Dahari scored two goals to gave the wins for Malaysian team, who beat the English giant club, Arsenal in a friendly in 1975 at Stadium Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur and in the next day ,there are rumors that the Gunners are interested in buying him.

8. Mokhtar scored a goal that brought the country the SEA Games Gold medal for the first time in 1977 after beating Thailand 2-0 in the final.

9. His amazing skills and dribbling that beat 5 England players and scoring the equalizer in a friendly match between Malaysia and England in 1978 then has resulted the England coach Bobby Robson is angry with his team.

10. Mokhtar Dahari receive a red card in for the first and last in his football career against Singapore in the Malaysia Cup in 1981. The historic's referee, which presented a red card is Othman Omar.

11. The last time he represent the country is at the World Cup Pre-Qualification match against South Korea in Seoul in 1985.

12. With a total of 167 international caps, and the total number of goals in the Malaysia Cup was 177 goals and the international goals was 125 makes that no other players can compete with his record until now.

13. First rumors began to blow in 1987 said Mokhtar Dahari have an odd disease before he was diagnosed Mascular Dystrophy in 1989. He died on Thursday, July 11 1991 at 8:25 am at the Medical Centre Subang leaving a widow and 3 children.

14. He got a title Dato' Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (D.S.S.A), from the Sultan of Selangor, which carries the title Dato' in the year 2001, ten years after his death.
